Dr Richard Cockett is an editor at The Economist newspaper, based in London. From 2010-15 he was the South-East Asia correspondent, covering Myanmar, based in Singapore. He has also worked in Africa and Latin America. Before joining The Economist he was a senior lecturer in History, Politics and Political Philosophy at the University of London. He has written several books on British history and world affairs. His latest, Blood, Dreams and Gold; The Changing Face of Burma, was published by Yale University Press in 2015. He frequently comments on Myanmar affairs in the Western media.
